The Centre for Molecular Nanometrology at Strathclyde University is advancing the little-explored field of nanometrology, where groundbreaking research centres on the ability to measure and characterise tiny molecules in their natural environment. This difficult and complicated task is essential for the study of molecular biology and medicine. The Centre has even received a £5 million award to lead future research in areas of strategic importance to the UK. Researchers eventually aim to measure molecules non-invasively inside the human body, thus detecting the early onset of disease and putting Scotland at the forefront of this valuable research area.
