Where Tomorrow Begins: Reflections of Scottish Innovation is a six month, touring exhibition by Scotland’s universities, forming an important part of the Homecoming Scotland celebrations.
The Sunday Herald’s award winning photographer Kirsty Anderson has captured the spirit of the innovation taking place in Scotland’s universities in 40 stunning images.
The exhibition will give you a glimpse of how the things we are discovering today will change our tomorrow.
Introduction from Professor Ian Howard, Principal of Edinburgh College of Art:
“In creating a contribution to the national Homecoming Scotland celebrations in 2009 Scotland’s universities wanted to take the charming, inspiring spirit of pride in Scottish discoveries past that echoes from our schoolyards and project it forward. There are 15 universities and five other research-active higher education institutions in Scotland. Everyone of them has very recently been rated as carrying out research which is not only world class but which is actually leading the world in its discipline.
This exhibition gives a dynamic visual form to the extraordinary explorations carried out in our world class universities and colleges – explorations which are driven by passion, wonder, innovation, curiosity, imagination and the desire for change. What can be often appear opaque and dry in text, is here distilled into surprising, arresting and often beautiful images.
These images point us to the future in ways words cannot”.
